SHEPHERDSTOWN
Nestled in the lower Shenandoah Valley, historic Shepherdstown is said to be the oldest incorporated city in the state of West Virginia. Many of the buildings in the town were built before the Revolutionary War and have been well-preserved and protected. Several historical buildings on German Street are now home to quaint little shops and cafés.
Shepherdstown is home to Shepherd University, a state-supported institution within the West Virginia system of higher education. The C&O Canal is less than a mile away, with biking and hiking along the Potomac River. Special events throughout the year include the Mountain Heritage Arts and Crafts Festival, the Over-the-Mountain Studio Tour, and Christmas in Shepherdstown with a tree lighting, parade and visits from Santa. Shepherdstown also boasts an active night life of fine dining and live music.
This picturesque town is only 90 minutes from the Washington/Baltimore metropolitan areas but miles away from the hectic lifestyle of the city.
